RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — A preliminary wish-list of what could be built at a newly proposed park on Rice Lake’s north side was heard Wednesday evening.

Craig Fowler chairs the ad hoc committee tasked with developing the initial plan. The committee took ideas from similar parks in Altoona, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire and other cities, to create a park for all-ages.

“I think this could serve more, drawing people from outside of town, into town,” Fowler said.

A wide, grassy amphitheater and plaza with space for 2,300 people, parking for 300, pavilions, food truck parking, restrooms, native grass spaces, walking trails, and boating and fishing docks were presented for the park along Lakeshore Drive, east of the Barron County Fairgrounds.
Fowler cautioned these ideas are not yet set in stone and everything is open to public input. An online survey is open through September 17.

“And they are going to take what we heard tonight and the information from the survey and come up with what should our priority be.”

Those ideas will be presented to the Rice Lake City Council on October 14.
