BARRON, Wis. (WJMC) — While the area gained a late-season half-foot of snow with last weekend’s blizzard, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department reminds people that most of the county’s snowmobile trails remain closed.

The Department had received complaints of machines operating on closed trails. Most trails cross private property and depend on permission from landowners. Trespassing on these trails or causing damage to land risked landowners revoking trail access.

The only trails open to snowmobiles at this time are the Wild Rivers Trail, Tuscobia Trail and Cattail Trail from Turtle Lake to Almena.

Violators risk getting a ticket, the sheriff’s office said.
