NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (WRN) — A lawsuit against the New Richmond School District says it is violating Title IX protections.
The issue at hand revolves around a person’s gender identity and the use of boys’ and girls’ bathrooms.
The conservative law firm Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty represents a group of students and parents.
WILL filed the lawsuit in federal court earlier this month, saying the district’s policy violates students’ rights to separate bathrooms by allowing “male students to use girls’ bathrooms based on gender identity rather than biological sex.”
The Hudson Star Observer reports the district says it is following current legal interpretations of Title IX – the district’s attorney says it bars discrimination based on biological sex or gender identity.
The U.S. Department of Education opened an investigation earlier this year around the issue as well.
