Barron County’s Pioneer Village Museum now includes an authentic historical Ojibwe Village. The life-size, interactive, extensive exhibit is opening this weekend with a grand opening celebration this evening, and a powwow celebration tomorrow. Pioneer Village Museum board president Mark Dobberfuhl tells us about the exhibit and events.

“So there are four wigwams, one for each season. You know, they’re talking circles and everything that is authentic to what it would have been before the Europeans came,” Dobberful said. “It is opening on Friday evening, August 21st from 5 till 7. First will be the grand opening ceremony and dance and then we’ll have a little feast to follow.

“And that is going to be a free admission event, all paid for by sponsors. Then the next day on Saturday, we have, you know, typically powwow. And that’s, you know, you learn the language, you learn some Ojibwe history, you learn basic words in Ojibwe if you want, and local stories. And then, of course, the dances and a lot of people like those dances.”
