MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A package of “Red Tape Reset” bills is moving forward at the Capitol.

State Senator Julian Bradley says its in part an effort to decrease the administrative burden imposed by state government.

“We want to make sure that anybody that’s trying to work hard, buy a home, build a future that they’re able to do so and too often the government red tape slows those things down,” Bradley, said.

During a committee hearing, concerns were raised about a measure to sunset regulations, including those that protect the environment

“That’s a great one of the examples where maybe an automatic sunset may not be the best avenue however, rather than having an automatic sunset, have an automatic review,” Bradley said.

A sunsetting bill requires all chapters of administrative code be reviewed, updated or allowed to expire every seven years. Another bill requires any new administrative code regulation with an economic impact be offset by repeal or revision of existing regulations. The Red Tape Reset package recently cleared a Senate committee on a 3-2 partisan vote.
