MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Assembly Republican lawmakers say discussions are ongoing with Governor Tony Evers regarding property tax relief and education funding.
“Our position is he should accept this deal. It checks a lot of boxes, if not all the boxes on the things that he had previously asked for, and so we’re hoping he is actually serious about getting something done and not just trying to play political games,” said Majority Leader Tyler August.
The Republican plan includes rebate checks for taxpayers, a half-billion dollars for the school levy tax credit, and $200 million for special education reimbursement.
The Democratic governor says he doesn’t support that plan and won’t sign the package as is, calling for more K-12 funding.
