The Green Bay Packers did something in the first round of the NFL draft that they hadn’t done since 2002. The host team for this year’s NFL draft selected a wide receiver, taking Texas’ Matthew Golden at No. 23 overall. Golden is coming off an excellent junior season in which he had 58 catches for 987 yards and nine touchdowns. The previous time the Packers took a wide receiver in the opening round was 23 years ago when Javon Walker went 20th.
The Minnesota Vikings have selected Ohio State guard Donovan Jackson with the 24th pick in the NFL draft to complete an offseason overhaul of the interior of their offensive line. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Jackson was a second-team Associated Press All-American for the national champion Buckeyes. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Mike Yastrzemski and Matt Chapman homered as the San Francisco Giants rallied to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 on Thursday to take three of four games in the series. Yastrzemski hit a solo homer, finished with two RBIs and scored twice. Chapman hit his fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the fifth inning. Christian Yelich, Rhys Hoskins and Sal Frelick had RBI hits for the Brewers. The Brewers will be in action tonight when they open up a three game series with the St Louis Cardinals.

Shane Smith allowed one walk and four hits while striking out seven over five innings to pick up his first major league victory.
