(Anaheim, CA) — The Brewers continue a stretch of series against teams with losing records. Rookie Shane Drohan starts tonight’s (Friday’s) series opener against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim. The Angels haven’t had a winning record in a season in more than a decade and just started a sell-off by trading starting catcher Logan O’Hoppe and reliever Chase Silseth to the Texas Rangers. Milwaukee has won the last five meetings with the Angels.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kody Clemens hit a game-ending grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning as the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 after being no-hit by Noah Cameron until the seventh. Cameron threw eight shutout innings in his career-long start. Royals closer Lucas Erceg retired the first two batters, then hit Ryan Jeffers with a pitch. Matt Strahm entered with the bases loaded and had an 0-2 slider smacked into the flower box above right-center field for the sixth walk-off grand slam in Twins history. Brian Dozier had the last one in 2018.
TORONTO (AP) — Napheesa Collier, Olivia Miles and Courtney Williams each scored 16 points and the Minnesota Lynx beat the Toronto Tempo 104-72 on Thursday night for their ninth straight victory. Kayla McBride added 13 points, Dorka Juhasz had 12 and Natasha Howard finished with nine points eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks for the WNBA-leading Lynx (24-6). Laura Juskaite led the expansion Tempo (10-18) with 19 points. Marina Mabrey added 16, and Nyara Sabally had 10. Toronto has lost five straight, which includes a 100-93 loss at Minnesota in Collier’s season debut Tuesday night, and nine of 10.
(Green Bay, WI) — This week’s start of Packers training camp finds some rookies working with the starters. Cornerback Brandon Cisse is practicing with the first team while Keisean Nixon is out with a hamstring injury. Jager Burton has shown coaches enough to use him as a swing interior lineman, though he had to step away from practice when he tweaked his hamstring. One non-rookie getting attention is running back MarShawn Lloyd. He’s battled injuries his first two seasons, but he looked quick while scoring a touchdown in practice. He should be Josh Jacobs’ backup.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers career rushing leader Ahman Green says he learned last year that he has early onset Parkinson’s disease. The four-time Pro Bowl running back discussed his diagnosis this week on Tyler Dunne’s “Go Long” podcast. The 49-year-old says “the way I look at it, my clock is going to stop ticking when I want it to stop ticking.” Green says it’s similar to the approach he took while running the ball during a 12-year NFL career in which he rushed for 9,205 yards and 60 touchdowns. His last season was 2009.
(Milwaukee, WI) — For the first time in more than a decade the Bucks aren’t considered a playoff contender. There’s been too much roster turnover to know where they stand. Yahoo Sports reports that oddsmakers in Las Vegas are projecting Milwaukee to win between 24.5 and 26.5 games. The Bucks have more depth this season but a lot of that is made up of unproven rookies and young players. The team is given a five-percent chance for the postseason.
(Madison, WI) — Once one of the best Badgers basketball players in program history, Johnny Davis flamed out in the NBA. He’s now headed to Turkey after signing a contract with Glint Manisa Basket. Davis played just 12 games in three seasons with the Washington Wizards. Never a great shooter, he hit less than 40 percent of his field shots, 27 percent on 3-pointers and a surprising 56 percent on free throws. He had been a top-10 selection in the 2022 NBA Draft.
