MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester will undergo season-ending surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome and is expected to be sidelined for eight to 10 months. Thoracic outlet syndrome is a disorder that occurs when blood vessels or nerves in the space between the collarbone and first rib are compressed. That can lead to neck and shoulder pain, numbness or tingling in the fingers, and arm weakness. Priester’s thoracic outlet decompression surgery will be performed on Monday in Dallas by surgeon Dr. Gregory Pearl and will involve the removal of the first upper rib on the right side. Priester said he hopes to compete for a rotation spot next spring.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Minnesota Twins got off to another fast start and completed a three-game series sweep in Texas. Brooks Lee hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run first inning in a 9-3 win over the Rangers on Thursday. The Twins scored multiple runs in the first inning each game and never trailed in the series. Trevor Larnach and Ryan Kriedler also homered for Minnesota, which has won four in a row to match its season high. Wyatt Langford, Ezequiel Duran and Justin Foscue hit solo homers for the Rangers, who have lost five of six. Joey Ryan worked five scoreless innings for the win and Jack Lieter lost his third start in a row for Texas.

(New York, NY) — New York City police mistakenly thought former Marquette basketball star Tyler Kolek was just a rowdy fan during Thursday’s celebration of the Knicks’ NBA Championship. Kolek just completed his second year in professional basketball, and he played for the Knicks. Two police officers didn’t recognize Kolek, and they grabbed his arms to stop him from running. Apparently, someone in the crowd interceded and told the officers that Kolek was a member of the team.
