(Milwaukee, WI) — The Giants were up by a run after the first pitch of the game Thursday afternoon. They went on to claim a split of the four-game series with a 12-9 win over Milwaukee. At one point, the visitors had a nine-run lead. Jackson Chourio went deep twice for the Brewers, and David Hamilton cleared the fence with his second homer of the year. Coleman Crow gave up six runs and took the loss. Brandon Sproat starts tonight’s series opener in Colorado.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Pinch-hitter Josh Rojas had a go-ahead, two-run single in the ninth inning in his Kansas City debut and the Royals outlasted the Minnesota Twins 8-6. Matt Strahm pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the win. Alex Lange got three outs for his second save this season. Michael Massey hit his sixth homer for the Royals. Taylor Rogers took the the loss after being charged with two runs in the ninth. Kody Clemens homered twice off Royals starter Seth Lugo, and Byron Buxton and Victor Caratini also hit home runs — all solo shots.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Seth Jarvis scored on a power play in overtime after Carolina erased a deficit in regulation only to gave up a late tying goal, and the Hurricanes beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night to tie the series. Jarvis’ heroics 3:56 into OT came after a thrilling third period that included four goals being scored and another getting called off because of goaltender interference. Game 3 is Saturday in Las Vegas. There is now a guarantee the series will return to Raleigh for a Game 5 next week.

NEW YORK (AP) — Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Foligno has received this season’s King Clancy Memorial Trophy for leadership and service. The award is presented annually to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community. Each team nominates one player. The NHL will donate $25,000 to the Janis Foligno Foundation for Foligno winning the award. His family established the foundation in honor of his mother following her death of breast cancer in 2009. Foligno’s older brother and current teammate Nick Foligno won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2017.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Olivia Miles scored a career-high 28 points and set a WNBA rookie record with eight 3-pointers, and the Minnesota Lynx held off the Golden State Valkyries 87-84 for their sixth straight victory. Miles was 8 of 11 from 3-point range. Caitlin Clark and Crystal Robinson shared the previous rookie record with seven 3s. Miles made her fifth straight 3 with 6:24 remaining in the first half to reach 17 points, while the rest of her teammates had just 14. She also made her first two 3s of the third quarter. Minnesota improved to 7-0 all-time against Golden State.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers have signed another wide receiver to a lucrative contract extension. The deal for Christian Watson announced Thursday tops 110 million dollars and four years. Watson has always been productive, but the trick has been to keep him on the field. He missed seven games last season but was good for 611 yards and six touchdowns in the other 10. With Jayden Reed signed to a 50-million-dollar extension, the next task for general manager Brian Gutekunst is to work something out with tight end Tucker Kraft.

(Madison, WI) — It’s a big “get” for the Wisconsin football program. Four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams has given coach Luke Fickell a verbal commitment. Wisconsin edges out LSU and Nebraska. Bucky’s 5th Quarter-dot-com reports that Williams becomes Fickell’s most important recruit in the coach’s time on the job in Madison. Williams is expected to be a shutdown cornerback when he signs a national letter of intent in December.

(Madison, WI) — Madison native Steve Stricker tells reporters he plans on competing in this year’s 10th annual American Family Insurance Championship. Stricker recently suffered a setback while recovering from hip replacement surgery over the winter. Golf Week-dot-com reports the competition starts today (Friday) at the TPC course in Madison. Another Madison native, Jerry Kelly, will also be in the field.

NEW YORK (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio and Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan are part of the latest investment group for the Athletes Unlimited Softball League as it heads into its second season. AUSL announced on Thursday a new group of strategic investors that was led by the Brewers and Ryan Sanders Baseball. This makes the Brewers the first Major League Baseball team to invest directly in the AUSL. MLB had announced a partnership and strategic investment with AUSL in 2025. Ryan Sanders Baseball is one of the top ownership and operating groups in Minor League Baseball.
