(Milwaukee, WI) — Hard-throwing Jacob Misiorowski and four relievers struck out 20 White Sox batters on Opening Day, although they had plenty of offensive support. Homers from Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick powered Milwaukee in a 14-2 victory. Misiorowski fanned 11 Sox in five innings to earn the victory. A three-RBI, bases-clearing double by catcher William Contreras was one of the biggest hits. The two teams take today (Friday) off and meet Saturday at American Family Field.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Trevor Rogers pitched seven shutout innings and Colton Cowser and Blaze Alexander had seventh-inning RBIs to give the Baltimore Orioles a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins on opening day. Following a stellar 2025 season in which he went 9-3 with a 1.81 ERA, Rogers picked up where he left off in front of a sellout crowd at Camden Yards on Thursday. The lefty allowed three hits, walked four and was especially effective when stuck in a jam. Baltimore broke up the scoreless duel in the seventh against the Minnesota bullpen. Craig Albernaz got the win in his managerial debut.

(Madison, WI) — The Wisconsin women’s basketball team scored the last seven points of the game Thursday in 42 seconds, forcing overtime against Harvard. The Badgers went on to win the game 64-61 and qualify for the semifinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament. Gift Ochenna led Wisconsin’s scoring with 17 points. It was the 600th victory for UW coach Robin Pingeton’s career. The Badgers play Columbia in Wichita, Kansas, on Monday.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Joel Eriksson Ek scored the winning goal with 4.4 seconds left to lift the Minnesota Wild past the Florida Panthers 3-2. Marcus Foligno and Ryan Hartman added goals and Jesper Wallstedt made 18 saves. Minnesota is 3-4-1 in its past eight. Florida’s Aaron Ekblad hammered a shot inside the left post to tie it with 1:13 left before Eriksson Ek answered with the winner. Matthew Tkachuk scored and assisted for the short-handed Panthers, who were down nine players, including leading scorer Sam Reinhart. Daniil Tarasov stopped 47 shots.

(Worcester, MA) — The Wisconsin men’s hockey team scorched the nets with four goals in the final period to beat Dartmouth 5-1 Thursday night. The Badgers will advance in the Division One NCAA tournament to take on Big Ten Conference rival Michigan State Saturday. The winner moves on to the Frozen Four in Las Vegas. UW Senior Simon Tassy had two goals in the victory. Freshman goaltender Daniel Hauser stopped 13 of the 14 shots he faced.

(Madison, WI) — The Wisconsin football program has landed a commitment from one of its top recruiting targets. Germantown 4-star offensive lineman Cole Reiter is coming to Madison. Reiter had offers from blue-blood programs like Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State, plus many more. He is the fifth in-state standout to commit to play college football for the Badgers.
