CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox claimed infielder Vinny Capra off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. The Brewers had designated Capra for assignment while recalling infielder Andruw Monasterio from Triple-A Nashville on Friday. The 28-year-old Capra batted .074 with a .121 on-base percentage, one homer and four RBIs in 24 games with Milwaukee while primarily playing third base. He also had made appearances at second base and shortstop.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa and center fielder Byron Buxton have been placed in the concussion protocol after colliding in the outfield in Baltimore. Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins hit a fly ball to shallow center field leading off the third inning and both players gave chase. Correa retreated to the outfield grass in pursuit while Buxton raced in. Buxton appeared to call off Correa at the last minute, but it was too late. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Buxton slammed into the 6-3, 220-pound Correa. Correa was pulled from the game immediately and replaced by Jonah Bride. Buxton stayed in for the remainder of the third inning but was replaced by Ty France in the fourth.

DENVER (AP) — Jamal Murray fought through an illness to score 25 points and power the Denver Nuggets past the Thunder 119-107, sending the series back to Oklahoma City for a decisive Game 7. Sick since Wednesday, Murray was listed as questionable for Thursday’s game. He ignited the Nuggets with a four-point play to start things off and sank a step-back 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter that pushed Denver’s lead to double digits for the first time. Nikola Jokic led Denver with 29 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 32 points. Game 7 is Sunday, with Minnesota awaiting the winner.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Andrei Svechnikov scored the go-ahead goal with just under two minutes left and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Washington Capitals 3-1 in Game 5 on Thursday night, winning the second-round series and advancing to the Eastern Conference final for a second time in three years. Captain Jordan Staal got his first goal of the playoffs, and Frederik Andersen stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced, including several on Alex Ovechkin. After a give and go with defenseman Sean Walker, Svechnikov’s shot got through Logan Thompson from a bad angle with 1:59 remaining, and that was the difference in a game that was back and forth. Seth Jarvis sealed it with an empty-net goal with 26.1 seconds remaining.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves and the Winnipeg Jets beat the Dallas Stars 4-0 on Thursday night to force a sixth game in the Western Conference semifinal series. With Edmonton awaiting the winner in the conference final, the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Jets avoided elimination to send the series back to Dallas for Game 6 on Saturday night. Nikolaj Ehlers had two goals and Mark Scheifele and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored to back Hellebuyck. Jake Oettinger stopped 31 shots for Dallas. Stars captain Jamie Benn sucker-punched Scheifele during a late scrum, with Benn given a misconduct penalty and possibly facing a suspension for Game 6. Scheifele opened the scoring at 6:17 of the second period with a shot that deflected off two Dallas players.
