(Chicago, IL) — Ian Happ blasted a three-run homer in the first, and the Cubs made it stand up Thursday night for a 6-0 win. That evens the National League Division Series against the Brewers at two games apiece and sets up a deciding game in Milwaukee Saturday. Happ’s home run came off Brewers ace Freddy Peralta. Milwaukee hitters managed only two singles and a double while being shut out. Lefty Jose Quintana is tentatively scheduled to start Saturday’s game.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Orion Kerkering made a wild throw past home instead of tossing to first after mishandling Andy Pages’ bases-loaded comebacker with two outs in the 11th inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 to win their NL Division Series 3-1. Kerkering hung his head and put hands on knees after his throw sailed past catcher J.T. Realmuto as pinch-runner Hyeseong Kim crossed the plate, advancing the Dodgers to the NL Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs or Milwaukee. Realmuto had pointed to first when the two-hopper hit off Kerkering’s glove and rolled just in front of the mound.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Ryan Hartman scored twice, Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves for his 12th NHL shutout and the Minnesota Wild beat the St. Louis Blues 5-0 on Thursday night in the opener for both teams. Matt Boldy, Joel Eriksson Ek and Marco Rossi also scored, and Kirill Kaprizov had three assists in his first game since signing an eight-year, $136 million contract. Gustavsson played days after agreeing to a five-year, $34 million contract extension. Hartman also had two assists.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Joe Flacco has a chance to do something in his Cincinnati Bengals debut that only one quarterback has accomplished. Flacco will try to help the Bengals beat Green Bay just three weeks after he defeated the Packers as the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback. The only quarterback to beat the same opponent twice in one season while playing for two teams was Jack Kemp in 1962. The Bengals acquired Flacco this week as they try to snap a three-game skid. Flacco was Cleveland’s quarterback when the Browns beat the Packers 13-10 on Sept. 21.

(Madison, WI) — It has been a year since the Badgers last beat a Big Ten opponent at Camp Randall Stadium. The Iowa Hawkeyes visit Wisconsin tomorrow (Saturday). The last time Bucky beat a conference opponent was the 52-6 rout of Purdue on October 5th, 2024. The Badgers haven’t won any Big Ten game – home or road – since the 23-3 decision over Northwestern last October 19th. Saturday’s rivalry showdown is being called a “must-win.” Wisconsin needs four more wins to qualify for a bowl game, and the remaining schedule makes that doubtful.
Pregame at 4pm. Kickoff at 6pm on 96.1FM.
(Milwaukee, WI) — A big second half powered the Bucks to a 117-111 preseason win over the Detroit Pistons Thursday night. Doc Rivers emptied his bench again while trying to get a look at all candidates for the Milwaukee roster. Giannis Antetokounmpo was held out. Guard A-J Green was 5-for-5 on 3-pointers and scored a team-high 22 points. New center Myles Turner scored four points in 15 minutes of court time. Sunday, Milwaukee will take on the Bulls in Chicago.
(Madison, WI) — Coach Greg Gard and his basketball Badgers should be getting used to this. Multiple preseason polls predict Wisconsin will finish no better than sixth in the Big Ten Conference. Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, UCLA, and Michigan State are all projected to finish higher. Of course, the Badgers were picked even lower before last season, and they put up a 27-and-10 record, good for a number-three seeding in the NCAA Tournament.
