GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Jordan Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns and the Green Bay Packers beat the Washington Commanders 27-18. Tight end Tucker Kraft caught six passes for a career-high 124 yards to help the Packers improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2020. Love and Kraft connected on an 8-yard touchdown play with 8:57 left to thwart the Commanders’ comeback attempt. Love’s other touchdown pass was a 5-yarder to Romeo Doubs in the first quarter. Washington gained just 11 yards in the first quarter and lost running back Austin Ekeler to an Achilles tendon injury late in the game.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — J.J. McCarthy is eager for his home debut in Minnesota after a comeback victory at Chicago in the season opener. The poise he showed following a rough start for the Vikings bodes well for his ability to avoid distraction amid the prime-time buzz on Sunday night against Atlanta. Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. also faces a tough test in a night game on the road against a difficult-to-decipher defense. Penix and McCarthy were drafted eighth and 10th overall in 2024 after McCarthy led Michigan to the national championship over Penix’s Washington team to close out their college careers.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Natisha Hiedeman scored 21 points, Napheesa Collier had 19 and the Minnesota Lynx beat the Golden State Valkyries 72-53 to set a franchise record with 34 wins. Minnesota had already cliched home-court advantage in the playoffs, locking up the No. 1 seed with a win over Connecticut. The Lynx tied the 2023 Las Vegas Aces for the most regular-season wins in WNBA history. Golden State dropped to the No. 8 seed in the playoffs and will have a rematch against Minnesota on Sunday to begin a best-of-three series. Collier finished the regular season shooting 53% from the field, 40.3% from 3-point range and 91% from the line to join Elena Delle Donne (in 2019) as the only players in WNBA history to have a 50/40/90 season.
(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers will welcome Central Division rival St. Louis for a weekend series at American Family Field starting tonight (Friday). Quinn Priester is scheduled to be the starting pitcher. Milwaukee’s big lead in the standings means there is less at stake for this visit, compared to the past, but the team could trip its magic number to single digits. The Cardinals are out of the race, and both teams are coming out of a series where they were swept.
