(Anaheim, CA) — Jacob Misiorowski held the Los Angeles Angels to just two hits in seven innings, but one of those hits was a two-run home run in the second. That was the big blow in the Angels’ 3-0 win over the Brewers Sunday afternoon. Milwaukee was held to five singles. The Brewers return home to open a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight (Monday). Brandon Sproat is the scheduled starter.

SEATTLE (AP) — Colt Emerson singled to right in the ninth inning to score pinch-runner Stuard Fairchild from third for the Seattle Mariners’ second straight walk-off victory over the Minnesota Twins, 7-6 on Sunday. The Mariners had blown a 6-0 lead as the Twins scored five runs in the eighth, then tied it on Luke Keaschall’s leadoff homer in the ninth. George Kirby, who has been mentioned in trade rumors throughout the weekend leading up to Monday’s trading deadline, pitched seven shutout innings for Seattle. He scattered five hits, all singles, striking out three and walking just one.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rookie Olivia Miles spearheaded an efficient offense with 28 points, Courtney Williams added 27, and the Minnesota Lynx won their 10th straight game with a 108-100 win over the Indiana Fever. There was a rally outside the Target Center that pitted those supporting Fever reserve Sophie Cunningham, who told ESPN last week she believed trans athletes should not play against girls, against those with an opposite feeling. Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve wore a shirt that read, “Trans kids belong,” and had a pregame conversation with Cunningham. Napheesa Collier had 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Lynx. Natasha Howard scored 13 points and Kayla McBride 10. The Fever (19-11), who had their five-game winning streak halted, were led by Kelsey Mitchell’s 37 points.
(Green Bay, WI) — Packers tight end Tucker Kraft has returned to practice after the team removed him from the PUP list Friday. Kraft is just working out individually, so far. Coach Matt LaFleur says they’ll take things slow with one of Green Bay’s top offensive players. Yahoo Sports reports number 85 could be involved when the Packers and Arizona Cardinals hold a joint practice August 26th. LaFleur’s top goal is to have Kraft ready to go for Week 1 of the NFL season.
(Madison, WI) — Less than a 100 days away from the start of the next season and the Wisconsin men’s basketball team still has an open spot on its roster. Speculation has centered on the Badgers bulking up the inside game, but that may have changed. A Colorado judge has issued a preliminary injunction granting eligibility to all college players who were in the high school class of 2022. That opens the door to guard Braeden Carrington – who hit 40 percent of his 3-pointers last year.
(Madison, WI) — A nationwide study finds the University of Wisconsin athletics among the most valuable programs in the country. The Athletic-dot-com conducted the study in each of the last two years. Wisconsin ranked eighth in the 18-team Big Ten and 19th among all colleges. The study considered net revenue, brand power, conference value, and other areas. The Badgers are valued at 922 million dollars. For comparison, the Minnesota Gophers were valued at 562 million.
LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England (AP) — Shiho Kuwaki has added her name to the growing list of Japanese players to win LPGA majors. The 23-year-old Kuwaki won the Women’s British Open with a par on the second playoff hole over Esther Henseleit of Germany on Sunday. Kuwaki shot a 70 in the final round at Royal Lytham & St. Annes. She looked like a winner until Henseleit dramatically holed a 40-foot birdie putt on the 18th for a 70 to force only the second playoff since the Women’s British Open became a major in 2001. Henseleit hit under a gorse bush and made bogey on the second hole.
DETROIT (AP) — Michael Thorbjornsen made a 26-foot putt for birdie on his last hole to shoot 7-under 63 and reach 18 under to win his first PGA Tour title by two strokes on Sunday at the Rocket Classic. The 24-year-old Thorbjornsen sealed his spot in the FedEx Cup playoff after rolling into the Motor City No. 69 in the standings. The top 70 advance to the postseason after next week’s Wyndham Championship. Thorbjornsen started Sunday three shots behind leader Davis Riley, whose rough start opened opportunities for the field. Thorbjornsen took advantage, taking the lead with four birdies in a six-hole stretch.

Rice Lake WI – The WISSOTA Late Models last raced at the Rice Lake Speedway on July 27th, 2024. That long break will be ending this coming Saturday, on August 8th when the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series come to the Rice Lake Speedway for round seven of their 2026 schedule.
The last time the Late Models raced at Rice Lake, Chad Mahder won the feature race and he will be among the favorites once again when perhaps as many as thirty drivers fight for the four thousand dollar top prize in the forty lap main event.
The series was rained out at the track in 2025 so this will be the first time that many drivers have had the opportunity to race at the track. That makes this race especially interesting as there is no “home court” advantage at the Rice Lake Speedway as no one has had any laps around the track in over two years and no one has raced on the track since the new clay was applied and the track reshaped following the 2025 racing season. It will be very interesting to see just how quickly the drivers adapt to the new surface and who is fast out of the gate.
The current Structural Buildings WCS point standings find Tyler Peterson from Hickson North Dakota leading by twenty four points over Proctor Minnesota’s Kevin Burdick and twenty seven points over Rice Minnesota’s Shane Sabraski. Currently fourth is Cameron’s own Kevin Eder who is looking forward to racing at his own adopted “home track.”
A full show for the Late Models including time trials, qualifying heats and B Features will precede the forty lap main event.
As a bonus for the racing fans attending, a full program of heats and features will also be on tap for the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks and Street Stocks and “Iron Man” Sabraski is expected to enter a car in three of the racing divisions. There are only three track point nights left in the 2026 season and with close point races in several classes, these nights are especially important to the drivers.
Race time is 7 pm on August 8th with the pit gates opening at 4 pm and the grandstand one hour later. The Rice Lake Speedway is located one mile North of Rice Lake Wisconsin midway between state highway 48 and Barron County highway SS. The track phone number is 715-236-2002.
