MILWAUKEE (AP) — Blake Perkins singled home the winning run in the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Sunday. The Brewers erased a 2-1 deficit by scoring in each of the final two innings to avoid the sweep. The Brewers have been swept just once, in their opening series of the season at Yankee Stadium. Eric Haase hit a one-out bloop single to center off Cade Gibson in the ninth and advanced to third on Brice Turang’s broken-bat double down the left-field line. Gibson intentionally walked Jackson Chourio to load the bases. Perkins then singled home Haase.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski already has won matchups with Paul Skenes and Clayton Kershaw and has pitched in the All-Star Game since reaching the major leagues six weeks ago. So forgive the 23-year-old right-hander if he isn’t getting overly caught up in the atmosphere surrounding his first matchup with the Chicago Cubs. The two NL Central rivals share the best record in the National League as they prepare to begin a three-game series in Milwaukee. Monday’s series opener is an All-Star pitching matchup featuring Misiorowski and Chicago’s Matthew Boyd.
Pregame at 6:05pm. First pitch at 6:40pm on AM1240 & 96.5FM.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — CJ Abrams hit a leadoff homer, stole three bases and scored three runs as the Washington Nationals beat the Minnesota Twins 7-2. Nationals starter Jake Irvin, a Twin Cities native pitching at Target Field for the first time, gave up two runs on five hits over seven innings. Josh Bell went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Matt Wallner homered and Harrison Bader had two hits for Minnesota, which has lost six of nine since the All-Star break. Washington broke it open with four runs in the fifth off Travis Adams, keyed by Alex Call’s two-run single.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Brittney Griner scored a season-high 22 points and the hot-shooting Atlanta Dream handed the Minnesota Lynx their first loss in 15 home games this season 90-86. The Lynx trailed 83-70 with three minutes to go but pulled within three on Napheesa Collier’s basket with 11.3 seconds left. Jordin Canada’s free throw at 7 seconds iced it. Atlanta made its first six shots of the fourth quarter before a block by Collier and then made three more in a row. Collier scored 32 points to lead the Lynx. The Lynx franchise-record home winning streak was the fourth-longest to start a season in WNBA history.

BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — Kurt Kitayama has his second PGA Tour victory. He won the 3M Open in Minnesota on Sunday, closing with a 65 for a total of 23-under 261 to beat Sam Stevens by one stroke. Kitayama shot a career-best 60 on Saturday to move within one shot of the co-leaders. He birdied six of the first eight holes on Sunday for a comfortable lead and withstood a bogey on the 17th hole. He two-putted for par on 18 to secure his win with Stevens finished. Kitayama moved to 53rd in the FedEx Cup standings, safely in position to make the playoffs.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Bubba Wallace became the first Black driver to win a major race on Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s 2.5-mile oval, surviving a late rain delay, two overtimes, concerns over running out of fuel and a hard-charging Kyle Larson on Sunday in the Brickyard 400. The third NASCAR Cup victory of Wallace’s career was also his most significant — his first win at one of the series’ four crown jewel races. It snapped a 100-race winless streak that dated to 2022 at Kansas. He also won at Talladega in 2021, but this milestone victory also gave him a playoff spot. No Black driver has won the Indianapolis 500, and Formula 1 raced on the track’s road course. And while the final gap was 0.222 seconds, Wallace didn’t reach victory lane without some consternation.
