(Green Bay, WI) — The second team to upset the Packers this season pulled it off at Lambeau Field Sunday by a 16-13 score. Ryan Fitzgerald booted the game-winning, 49-yard field goal for the Carolina Panthers in the closing seconds. It could be a double loss for Green Bay because tight end Tucker Kraft suffered a severe knee injury. The Packers offense got inside the visitors’ 35-yard-line seven times, but came away with just two field goals and a one-yard run by Josh Jacobs. Green Bay hosts the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football a week from now.
DETROIT (AP) — J.J. McCarthy threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score in his return from an ankle injury, leading the Minnesota Vikings to a 27-24 win over the Detroit Lions. McCarthy sealed the victory by throwing a 16-yard pass to Jalen Nailor on third-and-5 from the Minnesota 28, a play that allowed Minnesota to run out the clock. He threw both of his scoring passes in the first quarter and his 9-yard run midway through the third gave the Vikings a 24-14 lead. Jared Goff threw a touchdown pass to Jameson Williams as the Lions tried to rally, but they kicked off and didn’t get the ball back.
Indiana and Milwaukee will face off in a matchup of Eastern Conference foes. The teams match up Monday for the first time this season. Indiana is 0-0 against the Central Division, and Milwaukee is 0-1 against division opponents.
Pregame at 5:30pm. Kickoff at 6pm on AM1240 & 96.5FM
(Milwaukee, WI) — The Badgers and Marquette tip off the Division One regular season with a pair of home games tonight (Monday). Senior guard Chase Ross leads the Golden Eagles into a contest against Albany at the Fiserv Forum. The Eagles have won 32 of their last 34 home openers. Campbell visits the Kohl Center tonight to take on Wisconsin. The Badgers, under head coach Greg Gard, are undefeated in the last nine opening games.
(Madison, WI) — The Wisconsin men’s and women’s hockey teams took three out of four games against Border Battle opponent Minnesota over the weekend. The men blanked the Golden Gophers Saturday to complete the sweep and stay undefeated. The women bounced back from a Friday loss to roll past Minnesota 7-2 on Saturday. The Gophers had ended UW’s unbeaten record the day before by a 5-1 score.
AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Kyle Larson has denied Denny Hamlin his first career championship at Phoenix Raceway. A late caution sent the title-deciding finale into overtime. Hamlin was three laps from shedding the label as the greatest NASCAR driver to never win a championship when William Byron got a flat tire and hit the wall. Hamlin led the field down pit road and got four new tires on his Toyota. Larson only took two tires in his Chevrolet. It meant Larson was fifth for the two-lap sprint to the finish, with Hamlin back in 10th. Ryan Blaney, who was eliminated from title contention last week, won the race.
