LONDON (AP) — Vikings receiver Jordan Addison caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Carson Wentz with 25 seconds left to give Minnesota a 21-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 10-play, 80-yard drive gave the Vikings a much-needed win on their historic international road trip, which started with a 24-21 loss to the Steelers in Dublin last week. It also spoiled Dillon Gabriel’s first NFL start, as the Browns rookie put his team in position to win by throwing two touchdown passes. Fellow rookie Quinshon Judkins rushed for 110 yards on 23 carries. Wentz shook off a shoulder injury that briefly sent him to the locker room and led two scoring drives in the second half.
TORONTO (AP) — Rookie Trey Yesavage set a Blue Jays postseason record by striking out 11 batters in 5 1/3 no-hit innings, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit the first postseason grand slam in team history and Toronto took a 2-0 lead in the ALDS by beating the New York Yankees 13-7. Daulton Varsho had two home runs among his four extra base hits, and Ernie Clement and George Springer both homered as Toronto reached double figures in hits (15) and runs for the second straight game. The Blue Jays had three home runs among their 14 hits in Saturday’s 10-1 win.
SEATTLE (AP) — Julio Rodríguez hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning and the Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in Game 2 of their AL Division Series to even the series. With the game knotted at 2-2 and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, AL MVP candidate Cal Raleigh doubled with one out. Shortly after, Rodríguez doubled home Raleigh to put the Mariners in front for good. Closer Andrès Muñoz retired the Tigers in order for the save one night after throwing two innings in a 3-2 loss in 11 innings. Jorge Polanco homered twice for Seattle. After going scoreless against Seattle starter Luis Castillo and three Mariners relievers, the Tigers tied the game against Matt Brash in the top of the eighth.
(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers try to go up two games to none when they pitch lefty Aaron Ashby against the Cubs tonight (Monday). Milwaukee jumped out to a nine-run lead in the first game Saturday, eventually winning 9-3. All nine runs were scored in the first two innings. Jackson Chourio went 3-for-3 in those two innings, then left the action with a sore hamstring. Manager Pat Murphy says it would be “devastating” if Chourio is knocked out. Freddy Peralta got Saturday’s pitching victory.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio’s status for Game 2 of the NL Division Series against the Chicago Cubs remains uncertain a day after he had an MRI on his right hamstring. Brewers manager Pat Murphy says the MRI was inconclusive. Murphy says Chourio was still testing the strained hamstring during a workout on Sunday. Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Monday night. The Cubs plan to start left-hander Shota Imanaga while the Brewers will use lefty Aaron Ashby as an opener.
(Ann Arbor, MI) — The Badgers were able to keep the game close for a half Saturday, then 20th-ranked Michigan rolled to a 24-10 win. A five-yard run by Dilin Jones capped a 12-play, 75-yard drive on the first possession. The Badgers dominated possession and outgained the Wolverines 152-to-142 in the first half. The offense was stopped cold after that. Wisconsin welcomes the Iowa Hawkeyes to Camp Randall Stadium Saturday for homecoming.
(Maryland Heights, MO) — The Wisconsin men’s hockey team completed a sweep of Lindenwood with a 7-2 victory on the road Saturday. Christian Fitzgerald had a hat trick in the first two periods for the Badgers. Wisconsin was 4-for-9 on the power play and 3-for-5 killing penalties, outshooting the Lions 45-to-30. The Badgers welcome the US Under-18 team to the Kohl Center for an exhibition Thursday.
(Madison, WI) — The top-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team completed a sweep of Maine with a 5-0 decision Saturday. That’s three straight shutouts for the Badgers. Junior Laney Potter had two of the goals, with Caroline Harvey, Kirsten Simms, and Kelly Gorbatenko contributing single scores. Wisconsin takes on number-five-ranked Minnesota-Duluth in a two-game series next Friday and Saturday.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jackie Young set a WNBA Finals record with 21 points in the third quarter, leading the Las Vegas Aces to a 91-78 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday. The win gives the Aces a 2-0 series lead. The series shifts to Phoenix on Wednesday for Game 3. Young finished with 32 points. A’ja Wilson scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Kahleah Copper led the Mercury with 23 points. The Aces took control by holding the Mercury to 24 points over two periods, leading by as much as 22 points.
CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Joey Logano has secured the final spot in the next round of the NASCAR playoffs after a dramatic race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. On Sunday, Logano battled Ross Chastain for the last transfer position, with the two swapping spots multiple times. Denny Hamlin played a key role in the outcome when he made contact with Chastain, causing him to spin and finish behind Logano. This allowed Logano to advance and eliminated Chastain. Shane van Gisbergen won the race, while Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, and Austin Cindric were also eliminated from the playoffs.
