(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers stayed at home when choosing a new quarterbacks coach. Luke Getsy first joined the staff 12 years ago and has left a couple of times for coordinator positions. The Las Vegas Raiders fired him as play caller midway through the 2024 NFL season, and Getsy was brought in as a defensive consultant. He served as offensive assistant last season and will be assuming the responsibilities previously held by Sean Mannion.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have been unsettled for awhile after long being a model of efficiency and stability within Major League Baseball. Jeremy Zoll’s elevation to leading the baseball operations following Derek Falvey’s departure was the latest major change made just two weeks before the start of spring training. The front office from Zoll on down has been intact long enough to build a solid foundation despite the recent shifting ground at the top of the organization. Zoll at age 35 is now the youngest baseball operations chief in MLB. The Twins have their first pitchers and catchers workout on Thursday.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Kyle Busch has won the pole for the Daytona 500 and has another shot at the win that has eluded him his entire career. Busch topped qualifying with a fast lap in his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. He enters the race 0 for 20 in the Daytona 500. He also brings a 93-race overall losing streak into the weekend. Chase Briscoe qualified second in a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. The final starting order is not set yet. Drivers settle it after two qualifying races on Thursday night. Corey Heim and Justin Allgaier claimed two open spots on speed. Two more spots are still up for grabs.
MILAN (AP) — U.S. speedskater Jordan Stolz has won the men’s 1,000 meters at the Milan Cortina Olympics for the first gold medal of what he hopes will be a four-gold Winter Games. Skating in the next-to-last pairing at Milano Speed Skating Stadium, a temporary facility constructed for these Olympics that has been producing fast times so far, Stolz finished in 1 minute, 6.28 seconds. The 21-year-old from Wisconsin didn’t threaten his world record of 1:05.37 but did establish an Olympic record. Stolz trailed Jenning de Boo of the Netherlands with less than half of the race left but pulled away with a terrific last lap.
