ST. LOUIS (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff has been diagnosed with a new injury to his troublesome right shoulder after exiting early from his most recent start and returning to the injured list. An MRI exam revealed a new injury to his anterior capsule that was surgically repaired after the 2023 season. The Brewers planned to send Woodruff to surgeon Dr. Keith Meister for a second opinion. The 33-year-old experienced a drop in velocity on Saturday at Arizona and was removed during the fourth inning of his third start since coming off a nearly two-month stint on the injured list.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Alan Roden’s RBI single in the ninth inning helped the Minnesota Twins beat Cleveland 6-5 for their fourth straight win over the Guardians. The Twins have won four in a row and five of six overall. Roden singled twice and drove in two runs. Kody Clemens went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Brooks Lee singled twice and drove in a pair of runs. Yoendrys Gómez (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for his first win this season. Brayan Rocchio and Rhys Hoskins homered for the Guardians.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Kayla McBride scored 23 points, and Minnesota beat the Connecticut Sun 86-80 to give Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve the WNBA record for career wins. Reeve has 380 regular-season wins, one more than Mike Thibault, whose son Eric Thibault is Minnesota’s associate head coach. Reeve was hired by the Lynx in 2010 and has led the franchise to each of its four championships. The Lynx had lost their first two games since Reeve tied the record. Natasha Howard had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota. Standout Minnesota rookie Olivia Miles missed Wednesday night’s game with a calf strain.

(Milwaukee, WI) — The Bucks picked up veteran wing Caris LeVert and two second-round draft picks as part of a six-team trade involving 10 players. The deal was announced Wednesday. LeVert came off the bench for the Detroit Pistons last season, scoring seven points a game. He put up more than 16 points per game in the playoffs. As part of the transaction, Milwaukee sent Taurean Prince and Gary Harris to Detroit.

(Madison, WI) — Two Madison groups are questioning the process used by the University of Wisconsin when it hired Shawn Eichorst to be the new athletic director. The Madison Urban League and UW-Madison alumni submitted an open records request. Two black candidates, interim AD Marcus Sedberry and Northern Illinois AD Sean Frazier, applied for the position and weren’t interviewed. Frazier had served as a deputy athletic director at the Madison university in the past. The groups say the university hasn’t responded to the open records request yet.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Notre Dame football team will pay tribute to the Green Bay Packers by wearing unique uniforms for the 2026 college season opener at Lambeau Field. The special Shamrock Series uniforms were unveiled Wednesday. The blue and gold colors resemble the NFL team’s most recent 1923 throwback uniforms. The September 6th game between the Badgers and Fighting Irish has a 6:30 p-m scheduled kickoff.
