(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers had the tying run in scoring position with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t bring it home. The San Francisco Giants claimed a 1-0 shutout victory behind veteran starter Logan Webb. Robert Gasser gave up a fifth-inning home run that left him with the pitching loss. Milwaukee was held to three hits. Rookie Coleman Crow is scheduled to start the final game of the season’s first four-game series.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Erick Fedde pitched five scoreless innings for his first win in 10 months as the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 8-0. Rookie Sam Antonacci went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a walk and a hit by pitch for the White Sox. They took a 4-0 lead in the first on Twins starter Taj Bradley and are 33-29 after losing the last two nights. The White Sox got their 33rd win last season on July 18 and didn’t get there in 2024 until Sept. 8. Andrew Benintendi had a two-run homer and reached base five times for Chicago.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson from the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations. Woods Richardson was designated for assignment by the Twins on Saturday. He was 0-7 with a 7.74 ERA in 12 games, including 10 starts. His seven losses and 41 earned runs allowed were tops in the majors at the time of the move. The 25-year-old Woods Richardson is 12-17 with a 4.76 ERA for his career. He was a second-round pick by the New York Mets in 2018. The right-hander broke into the majors in 2022 with the Twins.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The New York Knicks’ winning streak lives on, and they struck first in the NBA Finals. Jalen Brunson scored 30 points, Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and the Knicks erased a 14-point second-half deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 of the finals on Wednesday night. OG Anunoby had 17 points for New York — which has won 12 consecutive playoff games, the seventh team to have such a streak in NBA history. Victor Wembanyama had 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, but he shot 6 for 21 from the field in his finals debut.
(Green Bay, WI) — Edge rusher Micah Parsons will apparently wind up on the physically unable to perform list as he comes back from knee surgery. Putting him on the PUP list means the All-Pro defender will miss at least the first four games of the season. Parsons tells reporters it’s most important that he be ready to go and not suffer any setbacks because he wants to be available down the stretch and into the NFL playoffs. He had hoped to be ready by the September 13th season opener at Minnesota. That’s not possible.
(Madison, WI) — One rating service puts the Wisconsin football recruiting class of 2027 in the top 20 nationwide. The Badgers have 16 commits for the class after signing up three-star cornerback Royalton Allen. Wisconsin checks in at number-18. The class is ranked right in the middle of the Big Ten, ninth, showing the conference’s status as a leader. The biggest commitment in the class comes from four-star quarterback Jack Sorgi. Last year, the Badgers were ranked below the top 60 classes.
(Madison, WI) — Polling right now doesn’t mean much for the next college basketball season, but it’s a little surprising that Wisconsin isn’t found anywhere on polls released this week. Not only are the Badgers not in the top 25, they don’t even get votes among the top 30. The departure of players like Nick Boyd, John Blackwell, Braeden Carrington, and Aleksas Bielisauskas accounts for the doubts. Still, coach Greg Gard and his staff are bringing on players like guard Trey Autry, Eian Elmer, Victory Onueto, and Will Garlock, who join holdovers like Austin Rapp and Nolan Winter.
