(Milwaukee, WI) — Centerfielder Blake Perkins tripled and drove in a career-high five runs in Wednesday night’s 9-2 Brewers victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Sal Frelick had a three-run homer, and Brandon Woodruff earned the pitching victory with five solid innings. Milwaukee’s magic number is six with 10 games left. The Brewers go for the sweep tonight (Thursday) behind starting pitcher Quinn Priester.
Pregame at 6:05pm. First pitch at 6:40pm on AM1240 & 96.5FM.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have lost another pitcher to injury and are unsure when All-Star closer Trevor Megill can return from his with the playoffs approaching. The latest blow came Wednesday when José Quintana landed on the 15-day injured list with a left calf strain. The veteran lefty was hurt in the fourth inning of Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Megill has been dealing with a right flexor strain and has been on the injured list since Aug. 27 with what was initially thought to be a mild injury.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Trent Grisham homered twice and Cody Bellinger also went deep as the New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 10-5. Aaron Judge went 3 for 4 to raise his major league-leading batting average to .329. The Yankees moved within four games of first-place Toronto in the AL East. Luis Gil pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits. Four relievers combined to blank the Twins the rest of the way, with Fernando Cruz getting four outs for the win. Grisham has 33 homers this season. Taj Bradley gave up both of Grisham’s homers and took the loss.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Napheesa Collier made a go-ahead 18-footer with 1:24 left on the way to 24 points, and the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx rallied from a 17-point third-quarter deficit to beat the Golden State Valkyries 75-74 and move on in the WNBA playoffs. Collier shot 10 for 16 and followed up her 20-point performance in Game 1 with a 14-point second half to bring her team back — and give the Lynx another chance to keep chasing that championship they just missed last year.
(Green Bay, WI) — Bad news for the NFC North: Packers linebacker Micah Parsons’ back injury has healed. For the first time in this season, he’s not on Green Bay’s injury report. Even though they were limited participants in practice, two other starters say they will be ready to go Sunday. Left guard Aaron Banks and right tackle Zach Tom were hurt during the season opener against the Lions. Other hurting players like Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden, Quay Walker, and Barryn Sorrell have used the extra-long layoff to get healthy.
(Madison, WI) — The football Badgers have a good record in Big Ten Conference openers. They host the Maryland Terrapins Saturday. Wisconsin is undefeated in two openers under head coach Luke Fickell, and the program has a 17-and-8 record since the 2000 season. Don’t expect the visitors to be able to run the ball. The Badgers are fourth in the nation against opponents’ ground games, giving up just 46 yards a game. The Terps have the lowest-ranked ground attack in the conference.
(Milwaukee, WI) — Most NBA analysts are writing off the Milwaukee Bucks, but not ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. She thinks Giannis Antetokounmpo can do for the Bucks what he did for Greece in the EuroBasket tournament. Greece earned a medal for the first time in 15 years. Shelbourne predicts Milwaukee can be a championship contender this season if Antetokounmpo has another MVP-caliber season.
