MILWAUKEE (AP) — Andrew Vaughn, Sal Frelick and Christian Yelich homered and the Milwaukee Brewers overcame a shaky start from All-Star Jacob Misiorowski to beat the Chicago Cubs 8-4 and take sole possession of first place in the NL Central. After a disastrous first inning during which he threw 40 pitches and gave up three runs, Misiorowski retired 10 consecutive batters while throwing 40 pitches over the next three innings. The Brewers stormed back with four runs off Matthew Boyd (11-4) in the third to take the lead. Vaughn had a solo homer in the fifth and Frelick hit another in the sixth to give the Brewers a 6-3 lead. After Kyle Tucker’s run-scoring single in the seventh cut the margin to 6-4, Yelich hit a two-run shot to give the Brewers a four-run cushion.

NEW YORK (AP) — Veteran catcher Danny Jansen has been traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to his hometown Milwaukee Brewers for minor league infielder Jadher Areinamo. Jansen was in Tampa Bay’s original lineup against the New York Yankees but got pulled about 45 minutes before the first pitch Monday night. The trade was announced shortly after the Rays ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win at Yankee Stadium. Tampa Bay signed Jansen to an $8.5 million, one-year contract on Dec. 13. He batted .204 with 11 homers and 29 RBIs in 73 games for the Rays. Jansen grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin. He is joining the NL Central leaders to serve as a backup to William Conteras, who is playing through a fractured finger.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Brooks Lee hit a two-run single off Jordan Hicks in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Minnesota Twins a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox after a 90-minute rain delay. Roman Anthony put Boston in front with an RBI single off Twins closer Jhoan Duran. Hicks warmed up before the delay. He allowed a single to DaShawn Keirsey Jr. and hit Mickey Gasper and Willi Castro with consecutive pitches. Lee delivered his third walk-off hit this season. Alex Bregman homered for the second straight game with a three-run shot for the Red Sox in the fifth.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have acquired starting pitcher Chris Paddack from the Minnesota Twins in a three-player trade. The Tigers announced that right-hander Reese Olson will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Paddack will debut for Detroit on Wednesday against Arizona. The Twins received catcher Enrique Jimenez, the Tigers’ 14th-best prospect, in exchange. Paddack went 3-9 with a 4.95 ERA for the Twins this season. The Tigers have struggled to find a fifth starter since Jackson Jobe needed surgery in May. Rookie Troy Melton is expected to move into a long-relief role.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Elgton Jenkins says he doesn’t expect the Green Bay Packers to alter his contract before the season to reflect his position switch while adding that he’s fine with the move from guard to center. The two-time Pro Bowl guard is moving to center after the Packers signed former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Aaron Banks to fill his old spot at left guard. The 29-year-old Jenkins practiced on a limited basis Monday for the first time after dealing with a back issue the first few days of training camp.
