CINCINNATI (AP) — Christian Yelich hit his fourth home run in six games and the Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to eight games, beating the Cincinnati Reds 3-2. Yelich — named the National League Player of the Week earlier Monday — connected on a full-count slider from Brady Singer and drove it 417 feet to straightaway center and off the batter’s eye to put Milwaukee on top in the third inning. Sal Frelick had a pair of hits for the Brewers, who have their longest winning streak since running off nine straight in August 2023.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Byron Buxton matched his career high with five RBIs and the Minnesota Twins extended the Athletics’ losing streak to seven games with a 10-4 victory. Buxton had a two-run double with two outs in a six-run second inning. He drove in two more with a bases-loaded single in the sixth and added a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Lawrence Butler hit a three-run homer for the Athletics, who have lost 18 of 19 overall. They fell to 9-20 at Sutter Health Park, their temporary home for at least the next three seasons.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma’s run of four straight Women’s College World Series titles ended when Lauren Allred’s walk-off sacrifice fly gave Texas Tech a 3-2 victory in the semifinals. Coach Patty Gasso’s Sooners were down to their last strike in the top of the seventh inning when Abigale Dayton summoned a bit of magic, hitting a tying two-run homer against Red Raiders ace NiJaree Canady. But the Red Raiders responded quickly in the bottom half. Mihyia Davis singled with one out and Hailey Toney followed with a double. Allred hit a fly ball to right field and Sydney Barker’s throw to the plate was wide, allowing Davis to score easily.
