The Milwaukee Brewers suffered their first loss of the season Monday night, falling to the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 at American Family Field. Young left‑hander Kyle Harrison was a bright spot in his Brewers debut, striking out eight and allowing just one run over five innings. The game was tied in the ninth when closer Trevor Megill issued a two‑out walk, and Tampa Bay cashed in on a go‑ahead RBI double by Nick Fortes. William Contreras accounted for both Milwaukee runs with a two‑run homer in the sixth.
The series continues tonight.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired outfielder Luis Matos from the San Francisco Giants for cash. Milwaukee made room for Matos on the 40-man roster by designating left-handed pitcher Sammy Peralta for assignment. The Giants had designated the 24-year-old Matos for assignment last week. Matos batted .221 with a .266 on-base percentage, eight homers, 22 RBIs and four steals in 57 games last season. He has a .231 batting average, .281 on-base percentage, 15 homers, 61 RBIs and seven steals in 178 career major league games.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says Milwaukee Brewers shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt has agreed to terms on an eight-year, $50.75 million contract before playing in a major league game. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t been announced. USA Today first reported that the two sides were on the verge of agreeing to terms. The 21-year-old Pratt is regarded as one of the more promising players in a Brewers farm system that ranks among the best in the majors.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals used home runs by Kyle Isbel and Isaac Collins, two hitters not known for their power, to defeat the Minnesota Twins 3-1 on an unseasonably warm day in front of a sellout crowd of 39,320 in Kansas City’s home opener. Kris Bubic picked up the win for Kansas City. He allowed one run on two hits in six innings. John Schreiber pitched the ninth for his first save. Simeon Woods Richardson took the loss for the Twins. Destiny Howell led Wisconsin with 12 points, while Laci Steele added 11. UW forced 19 turnovers, but shot just 30 percent from the field and couldn’t recover after falling behind early.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Joyce Edwards scored 24 points and Agot Makeer added 18 to help South Carolina beat TCU 78-52 to advance to the Final Four. The top-seeded Gamecocks will face UConn in the Final Four in Phoenix on Friday night in a rematch of last season’s national championship game. Everything came under scrutiny after the Green Bay Packers lost their final five games last season — including head coach Matt LaFleur’s job security. LaFleur is back on a new contract and told reporters at the NFL Annual Meeting that player frustration over roles hurt the team. He said some players were unhappy, and that affected energy and performance. LaFleur added clearer communication will be a priority moving forward.
