(Green Bay, WI) — Defenses dominated Monday Night Football as the Packers lost, 10-7, to Philadelphia. The game was scoreless at halftime. The Eagles had a 10-0 lead in the fourth period before running back Josh Jacobs put Green Bay on the scoreboard with a six-yard run. The Packers had a final shot at tying the score in the closing seconds, but a Brandon McManus field goal effort from 64 yards out was no good. Green Bay tries to snap the losing streak at New York against the Giants next Sunday.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — This season for Minnesota was bound to test Kevin O’Connell. The 2024 NFL Coach of the Year has tried to strike a balance between developing a starting quarterback in J.J. McCarthy who’d never played in the NFL and coaching a roster designed for the Vikings to contend. The Vikings’ offense was out of sync during a 27-19 defeat by Baltimore that dropped them to 4-5. O’Connell has tried to put McCarthy in uncomfortable situations, rather than relying on easy plays that could boost the young QB’s statistics. But McCarthy might benefit from more short, high-percentage throws.

Major League Baseball said its authorized gaming operators will cap bets on individual pitches at $200 and exclude them from parlays, a day after two Cleveland Guardians were indicted and accused of rigging pitches at the behest of gamblers. MLB said Monday the limits were agreed to by sportsbook operators representing more than 98% of the U.S. betting market. The league said in a statement that pitch-level bets on outcomes of pitch velocity and of balls and strikes “present heightened integrity risks because they focus on one-off events that can be determined by a single player and can be inconsequential to the outcome of the game.”
