LOS ANGELES (AP) — Freddie Freeman homered leading off the bottom of the 18th inning, Shohei Ohtani went deep twice during another record-setting performance and the Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in a World Series classic. The defending champion Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven matchup and still have a chance to win the title at home — something they haven’t done since 1963. Freeman connected off left-hander Brendon Little, sending a 406-foot drive to straightaway center field to finally end a game that lasted 6 hours, 39 minutes, and matched the longest by innings in postseason history.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jamal Murray scored 23 of his 43 points in the third quarter and Nikola Jokic had a triple-double as the Denver Nuggets beat the short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves 127-114. The Timberwolves played without star guard Anthony Edwards, who will miss at least a week with a strained right hamstring. Jokic finished with 25 points, 19 rebounds and 10 assists for his third triple-double in three games this season. Jaden McDaniels led Minnesota with 25 points, while Julius Randle scored 24 and Naz Reid had 18.

(Madison, WI) — The first game for new Wisconsin women’s head basketball coach Robin Pingeton was a 104-40 romp in an exhibition game Monday. Division Three UW-River Falls was the opponent. Guard Destiny Howell led the scoring with 22 points, and the Badgers were good on 53 percent of their floor shots – including 15 3-pointers. Wisconsin was hot from the start, scoring 20 straight points in the first period. The team opens the regular season Wednesday, November 5th, at home against Oakland.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers have lost a cornerback taken in the seventh round of the 2025 NBA Draft. Micah Robinson was on the practice squad when he was signed by the Tennessee Titans. Tight end Ben Sims, who was released last weekend to make roster room for Christian Watson, has been signed by the Vikings. He played all 34 games for Green Bay over the last two seasons – six of them starts.

The Green Bay Packers look as dangerous as any team in the league when they’re at peak form. They just need to figure out how to reach that level more consistently. Green Bay’s 35-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night showcased the Packers’ best and worst qualities. They struggled to finish drives early in the game and trailed 16-7 at halftime before dominating the rest of a road win over a division leader.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have placed quarterback Carson Wentz on injured reserve. Wentz will have season-ending surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder, according to a person with knowledge of the plans. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Vikings had not yet announced those details. Wentz played through the injury for 2 1/2 games. He made five starts in place of J.J. McCarthy, who’s recovering from a high ankle sprain. McCarthy was already on track to return this week.

(Indianapolis, IN) — Former Badger running back Jonathan Taylor is dominating the NFL so far this season. Playing for the Indianapolis Colts, Taylor is currently a frontrunner for Offensive Player of the Year and should be considered for MVP if he continues the production. Sports Illustrated reports that he has scored three touchdowns in a game four times in the first eight games of the season. The only NFL players to do that in the past were LaDanian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, Shaun Alexander, and Priest Holmes. Taylor is leading the league in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, yards from scrimmage, and total touchdowns.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Dayne St. Clair made a key save in the shootout and Minnesota United beat the Seattle Sounders 3-2 on penalty kicks on Monday night after the two clubs dueled to a scoreless draw in regulation of the best-of-three first-round opener. Seattle hosts Game 2 on Nov. 3. St. Clair stayed central to deny Álex Roldán’s penalty kick. Then Seattle midfielder Cristian Roldan hit the crossbar in the fourth round. Kelvin Yeboah, Nectarios Triantis and Joaquín Pereyra each made a penalty kick for Minnesota. Julian Gressel had a chance to win it for Minnesota but his attempt went off the post. Then Seattle midfielder Danny Leyva also went off the post to hand it to Minnesota.
