NEW YORK (AP) — Embattled Mets closer Devin Williams allowed a tiebreaking RBI single to Luke Keaschall in the ninth inning, and New York lost its 12th consecutive game, falling 5-3 to the Minnesota Twins. The Mets’ skid is their longest since they dropped 12 straight from Aug. 10-23, 2002. No team has made the playoffs after a season in which it lost 12 in a row. Matt Wallner followed Keaschall by drawing a bases-loaded walk off Williams, who didn’t retire any of the five batters he faced. The Mets were in position to end their streak when Nolan McLean retired the first 15 Twins batters and Francisco Lindor hit a three-run homer in the third.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Minnesota Twins reinstated third baseman Royce Lewis from the injured list before beginning a three-game series against the New York Mets. Lewis missed nine games with a sprained left knee. Lewis felt a pop in his knee during a swing in Minnesota’s game on April 9. He had two doubles, two homers, eight RBIs and an .822 OPS in 12 games before the injury. Lewis homered twice in two games with Triple-A St. Paul on a rehab assignment. The Twins also placed left-handed reliever Kody Funderburk on the paternity list and recalled left-handed reliever Kendry Rojas from St. Paul.

(Green Bay, WI) — Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst won’t say much about his draft strategy for Friday. His team doesn’t have any picks in Thursday’s first round – barring a trade or two. Gutekunst does tell reporters he plans to “add numbers” to Green Bay’s cornerbacks room. Packers-dot-com reports Gutekunst “feels good” about defenders like Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, and free-agent find Benjamin St. Juste, but more depth is needed.

(Madison, WI) — A pair of good, young linebackers will lead the Badger defense this fall. Mason Posa and true freshman Cooper Catalano came seemingly out of nowhere to change the look of the Wisconsin defense last season. Now, they’re leaders. When asked about this year’s team, Posa pointed to a schedule that’s easier than last year’s back-breaker when telling reporters the goal is “to make it to the College Football Playoffs.” That would take a complete turnaround. Sports Illustrated reports that he says Wisconsin has a chance to “win a lot more football games” this fall.

(Charlotte, NC) — Soon-to-be Hall of Fame coach Doc Rivers says it was his decision to step away from the Bucks. ESPN reports he will still get his eight-figure salary next year while he starts his retirement. When a reporter with the website Andscape-dot-com asked Rivers if he had coached his last NBA game, he responded: “Yeah, it’s very possible.” Rivers coached his Milwaukee team to a 97-and-103 record over the last two-and-a-half years.

Former Wisconsin guard John Blackwell is heading to Duke. Blackwell announced his commitment in an Instagram post. Blackwell was one of the most highly regarded players to enter the transfer portal after he teamed up with Nick Boyd this season to give Wisconsin one of the nation’s top backcourt tandems. Blackwell’s decision was part of a productive day of commitments for the Blue Devils and top rival North Carolina. The Tar Heels landed commitments from Utah guard Terrence Brown and guard Matt Able from fellow instate program N.C. State ahead of Michael Malone’s debut season leading the Tar Heels.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier will likely miss the first month of the WNBA regular season to complete her rehabilitation following left ankle surgery. The Lynx said the five-time All-Star’s rehab was progressing as expected with an anticipated return to on-court activity in early June. Collier had the procedure done on March 24. Minnesota opens the regular season on May 10 against Atlanta and has eight games in May with three on the schedule during the first week in June. The 29-year-old Collier averaged a career-high 22.9 points per game last season. She injured her ankle during the WNBA semifinals.
