NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Anthony Edwards scored 34 of his season-high 44 points in the second half, including a driving layup to force overtime, and Julius Randle scored eight points in the extra period to lift the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 149-142 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. Edwards sent the game into overtime with 2.3 seconds left. Trey Murphy III led the Pelicans with 33 points. Saddiq Bey had 22, and Derik Queen and fellow rookie Jeremiah Fears added 21. Rudy Gobert finished with 26 points for Minnesota, including three dunks in overtime. Jaden McDaniels had 17 points and Randle 16 for the Timberwolves, who won their third straight.

(Milwaukee, WI) — Freshman guard Nigel James Junior connected on four straight high-pressure free throws in the closing seconds of overtime to give Marquette a 75-72 victory. James led the Golden Eagles with 21 points, and Ben Gold added 17. Coach Shaka Smart’s team was heavily favored, and it trailed by six points with 3:40 to go in regulation. Marquette’s record is 5-and-4 with the cross-state rivalry game in Madison against the Wisconsin Badgers coming up Saturday.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Jesper Wallstedt made 33 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season in just 10 games as the Minnesota Wild carried their torrid pace from last month into December, emerging with a 1-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Jonas Brodin scored the lone goal for the Wild, who have achieved at least a point in 12 straight games. The Wild went 11-1-2 in November. The Oilers have lost five of their last seven. Stuart Skinner recorded 23 stops for the Oilers.

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Kendall Coyne Schofield’s hat trick lifted the Minnesota Frost to a dominant 5-1 win over the Ottawa Charge on Tuesday night. The home crowd at TD Place Arena turned the stands pink to support Ottawa head coach Carla MacLeod, who announced her breast cancer diagnosis on Saturday. Dominique Petrie and Grace Zumwinkle also scored for Minnesota, which has now won two straight since losing its season opener to Toronto. Nicole Hensley made 35 saves. Rookie Rory Guilday had the lone goal for Ottawa, while Gwyneth Philips stopped 28 of 32 shots.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers’ showdown with the Chicago Bears Sunday is the first of two games in 13 days. Green Bay is a six-and-a-half-point favorite. The NFL announced Tuesday that the second game, Saturday, December 20th, at Soldier Field in Chicago, has been moved to prime time. FOX Sports will televise the game with kickoff set for 7:20 pm Central time. It will follow the contest between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders.

(Milwaukee, WI) — The Bucks are in serious need of a victory as they try to recover from eight losses in nine games. It won’t be easy. Next on the schedule for tonight (Wednesday) is a home game against the red-hot Detroit Pistons at the Fiserv Forum. Detroit just finished a 13-game winning streak and has won 15 of its last 17. The Pistons won the first meeting with the Bucks a week and a half ago. Kevin Porter Jr., who has been on fire since returning from an injury, is listed as day-to-day after suffering back spasms during the loss to the Washington Wizards last weekend.

(Madison, WI) — Two members of the Wisconsin women’s hockey team have been honored by the WCHA. The Badgers had an offensive explosion by scoring 22 goals in two games in last weekend’s tournament in Nashville. Team captain Caroline Harvey was named league Defender of the Week after dishing out seven assists. Alternative captain Lacey Eden had three goals and five assists in the two games, earning WCHA Forward of the Week honors.
