(Milwaukee, WI) — Another late-game collapse cost the Bucks a 129-114 home defeat against Phoenix Tuesday night. It was a three-point game entering the fourth quarter and had been close since the opening tipoff. Kyle Kuzma’s 33 points led Milwaukee, while Giannis Antetokounmpo and Myles Turner scored 22 each. The Bucks have lost five of their last six games. They’re back in action Thursday night in Miami against the Heat.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Luka Doncic had 31 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in his seventh triple-double of the season, and the Los Angeles Lakers overcame LeBron James’ latest injury absence to sweep their season series with the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 120-106 victory. Austin Reaves scored 29 of his 31 points in the second half for the Lakers, who pulled even with Minnesota for fourth place in the Western Conference standings after their third straight win over the team that knocked them out of the first round of last season’s playoffs. Anthony Edwards finished with 14 points on a 2-for-15 shooting night for Minnesota.
MIAMI (AP) — It’s Wilt, then Bam. Bam Adebayo had a night for all time on Tuesday, with a point total second to only Wilt Chamberlain in the NBA record books. Adebayo scored 83 points, setting league marks for free throws made and attempted in a game for the Miami Heat in a 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards. Adebayo started with a 31-point first quarter — and never stopped rolling. He was up to 43 at halftime, 62 by the end of the third quarter. And then came the fourth, when the milestones kept falling despite facing double-, triple- and what once appeared to be a quadruple-team from a Wizards defense that kept sending him to the foul line.
(New York, NY) — For the second straight year, Marquette will meet Xavier to start the Big East Conference Tournament. It was different last time when both teams had much higher seeds. The Golden Eagles are surging late in the season with a three-game winning streak. The Musketeers may be forced to go without top scorer Tre Carroll, who averages 18 points a game. Carroll is listed as day-to-day.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Kirill Kaprizov scored his 37th goal of the season, Matt Boldy notched his 36th, and Filip Gustavsson earned his fourth shutout of the season as the Minnesota Wild defeated the Utah Mammoth 5-0 on Tuesday night. Bobby Brink scored his first goal since the Wild acquired him from the Flyers on Friday. Brink, a Minnesota native, put his new team up 3-0 early in the third period. Danila Yurov and Ryan Hartman also scored in the third. Gustavsson stopped all 25 shots he faced. Utah’s Karel Vejmelka made 25 saves in the loss.
(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers are trying to improve their special teams performance by signing free agent receiver and kick returner Skyy Moore. NFL-dot-com reports it’s a one-year deal with the former San Francisco 49er. Moore averaged 27-and-a-half yards per kickoff return and 11-point-6 yards per punt return. He caught just five passes as a wide receiver for 87 yards.
(Phoenix, AZ) — The Brewers’ two top prospects are among nine players sent to the team’s minor league camp this week. Infielder Jesus Made was having an impressive spring training with a .320 batting average and some hard contact. Catching prospect Jeferson Quero had been in line to serve as a backup for William Contreras until Milwaukee signed catchers Reese McGuire and Gary Sanchez. The other players sent down were Sammy Peralta, Luke Adams, Eddys Leonard, Greg Jones, Darrien Miller, Ramon Rodriguez, and Matt Wood.
Kyle Teel, Sam Antonacci and Jac Caglianone homered as Italy built a big lead and held on to stun the United States 8-6 in the World Baseball Classic. The U.S. is done with pool play at Houston’s Daikin Park and needs the Italians to beat Mexico Wednesday night to be guaranteed a spot in the quarterfinals. If Mexico beats Italy, all three teams will be knotted at 3-1 and the winners will be determined by a tiebreaker, with the team that allowed the most runs eliminated. Pete Crow-Armstrong homered twice for the Americans, but Aaron Judge struck out with a runner on to end it.
