(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers got a home run from .181-hitting Joey Ortiz in a 6-4 victory over the San Diego Padres Tuesday night. Ortiz hadn’t gone deep in almost 10 months. Brice Turang, Sal Frelick, and Ortiz each drove in two runs. Milwaukee scored five times in the fourth inning while claiming a fifth straight win. Rookie Brandon Sproat won for the first time. Jacob Misiorowski is scheduled to start tonight’s (Wednesday’s) game against the Padres.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Christian Yelich has been activated from the injured list by the Milwaukee Brewers after missing a month with an adductor strain. To open a roster spot for the outfielder/designated hitter, the Brewers optioned first baseman/outfielder Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville. Yelich, 34, was hitting .314 with a .375 on-base percentage, one homer, 10 RBIs and three steals in 15 games before going on the injured list. He went 0 for 4 in his first game back Tuesday night in the Brewers’ 6-4 victory over the Padres. The 2018 NL MVP and three-time All-Star last played on April 12. Black, 25, had hit .333 with a .357 on-base percentage, no homers and seven RBIs in nine games with Milwaukee.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Bailey Ober threw a two-hitter for his first career shutout, leading the Minnesota Twins to a 3-0 victory over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night in their series opener. Byron Buxton stole home and Ryan Jeffers hit a two-run homer for the Twins, who have won three straight games. Ober (4-2) threw 89 pitches in his third career complete game. He struck out seven, walked none and didn’t allow a hit after the fourth. Eury Pérez (2-5) didn’t allow a hit until the fifth, when Trevor Larnach’s single moved Buxton to third to set up the double-steal.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Victor Wembanyama atoned for his first career ejection with another huge performance, finishing with 27 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 126-97 on Tuesday night to take a 3-2 lead in their second-round series. Keldon Johnson had 21 points, De’Aaron Fox added 18 and Stephon Castle had 17 as San Antonio moved a game away from the Western Conference finals. The Spurs can advance to face Oklahoma City with a victory in Game 6 on Friday in Minneapolis. Anthony Edwards, who was limited to eight points in the first half, finished with 20 points for Minnesota.
(New York, NY) — The NBA has reportedly completed its investigation and handed down no penalty for the Bucks. The league examined the way the franchise handled Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury, holding him out of games while the star said he wanted to play. Antetokounmpo was out of the lineup for the last 15 games of the season. Milwaukee said he was dealing with a hyperextension of his left knee and a bone bruise.
PHOENIX (AP) — Natasha Howard had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Nia Coffey made a wide-open 3-pointer with 25.6 seconds left for a four-point lead, and the Minnesota Lynx beat the Phoenix Mercury 88-84 on Tuesday night. Coffey’s third 3-pointer — for an 87-83 lead — was set up by a nice drive and pass by rookie Olivia Miles. Then, Miles secured a rebound after a missed 3-pointer, and she made 1 of 2 free throws with 13.2 left to seal it. Coffey finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Miles had 13 points, six rebounds and seven assists for Minnesota (1-1). Kayla McBride added 14 points, and Courtney Williams and Emma Cechova each added 11 points. Kahleah Copper scored 30 points for Phoenix (1-2).
(Green Bay, WI) — It won’t be easy for the Packers to improve upon their 2025 record because their schedule is rated the third-toughest in the NFL. One of the problems is that the NFC North is so strong that no team finished below .500. Green Bay opponents had a 155-and-133 record with one tie. The Chicago Bears are going to face the toughest schedule. Opposing teams are known, but the official details of the 2026 NFL schedule won’t be released until tomorrow (Thursday).
(Madison, WI) — The Wisconsin men’s basketball team will have to take on the reigning national champion Michigan Wolverines and three other teams that made it to the Elite Eight this coming winter. Nebraska made it to the Sweet 16. The basketball schedule is starting to look like the obstacle course that faced Badgers football last fall. The Big Ten Conference released the basketball composite schedule Tuesday:
Home games only: Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, and Washington.
Road games only: Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Rutgers, UCLA, and USC.
Home and road games: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota.
The PWHL’s upcoming draft class is made up of a 235-player pool and, as highly anticipated, headed by five members of the U.S. Olympic gold medal-winning team, including defender Caroline Harvey. The prospect pool is the largest since the PWHL’s inaugural draft totaled 268 in 2023. And this year’s group features 23 players who competed at the Milan Cortina Games. The quality and quantity of talent represents one of the reasons why the eight-team league elected to add as many as four expansion franchises for next season. Detroit, which will host the draft on June 17, has already been announced as a new team, with more to be added in the coming days.
