(Chicago, IL) — After a little gamesmanship by Brewers manager Pat Murphy, right-hander Quinn Priester will start tonight’s (Wednesday’s) third game of the National League Division Series. Milwaukee leads the best-of-five playoff two games to none. Priester was warming up before Monday’s contest, which was started by lefty Aaron Ashby. Then, he spent the rest of the game sitting in the bullpen. Jameson Taillon starts for the Cubs this afternoon, with the first pitch set for 3:08 p-m.
NEW YORK (AP) — When the New York Yankees needed someone to save them Tuesday night, Aaron Judge practically put on a cape. Captain clutch, indeed. In a do-it-all performance for the ages, Judge hit a tying homer and drove in four runs as the Yankees staved off elimination by rallying past the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6 in Game 3 of their AL Division Series. Judge went 3 for 4 with an intentional walk and scored three times, also making pivotal plays with his glove and legs. Down by five early, New York scored eight unanswered runs to prevent a three-game sweep and push the best-of-five playoff series to Game 4 on Wednesday night in the Bronx.
DETROIT (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit a two-run homer, Eugenio Suarez and J.P. Crawford had solo shots and the Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 8-4 on Tuesday night to take a 2-1 lead in the AL Division Series. The Mariners are within a win of their first AL Championship Series since 2001. Their first chance to advance is on Wednesday afternoon in Game 4 at Comerica Park and if necessary, another opportunity awaits on Friday back in Seattle for a decisive Game 5. Seattle’s Logan Gilbert gave up one run on four hits while striking out seven and walking none over six innings.
(Milwaukee, WI) — The Bucks reportedly did discuss the idea of trading superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to the New York Knicks. ESPN reports that Antetokounmpo hadn’t requested a trade when the sides talked in August. His team has said multiple times that it has no plans to let the two-time Most Valuable Player leave. The Knicks’ offer wasn’t nearly enough. Any trade for Antetokounmpo would send so much talent and draft capital to Milwaukee that the other side would be decimated.
(Green Bay, WI) — The Detroit Lions have roared back after losing the 2025 NFL season opener to the Packers. Sports Illustrated reports that they top this week’s Consensus Power Rankings. Green Bay checks in at number-seven. After dropping that 27-13 decision in Lambeau Field, Detroit has blown out four straight opponents by a combined score of 161-85. The Packers won their first two, but then lost to Cleveland and tied the Cowboys. The Consensus Power Rankings average eight NFL ranking services, including NFL-dot-com and CBS Sports. The Lions were number-one in all eight.
(Madison, WI) — Badgers junior John Blackwell has been named to the preseason All-Big Ten Conference team. Blackwell averaged nearly 16 points per game last season, topped 25 four times, and put up 32 in Wisconsin’s 116-85 win over Iowa. He and his teammates take the court this Saturday for the Red White Scrimmage. The regular season opens with an exhibition in the Bad Boy Mowers Series in the Fiserv Forum October 24th against the Oklahoma Sooners.
