ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Kirill Kaprizov scored his second goal of the game 45 seconds into overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night. Kaprizov came down the middle and beat goalie Cam Talbot with a wrist shot from between the circles. Mats Zuccarello also scored twice, and Filip Gustavsson made 31 saves. Quinn Hughes had three assists, giving him 43 on the season, tied for the most among NHL defensemen. Lucas Raymond had two goals and James van Riemsdyk also scored for Detroit. Talbot made 35 saves. The point for getting past regulation moved the Red Wings into tie with Carolina atop the Eastern Conference with 67 points.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin underwent surgery for a lingering lower body injury that will prevent him from playing for Sweden in the Olympics next month. Coach John Hynes had no timetable for Brodin’s return but said he will be back on the ice this season. The 14th-year veteran was out for the fifth straight game when the Wild hosted the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. He also missed four games in December. The Wild will still have Eriksson Ek and goalies Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Wallstedt representing Sweden next month at the Winter Games in Italy.

(Milwaukee, WI) — Some Major League Baseball experts say it looks like the Brewers may have won the trade that sent ace Freddy Peralta to New York. The deal was made earlier this week. In return, Milwaukee gets two of the Mets’ top five prospects – hard-throwing right-hander Brandon Sproat and power-hitting infielder-outfielder Jeff Williams. Peralta is a rental for the Mets, but he gives that team the ace it needed to lead the pitching staff.
(Miami, FL) — New Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley says he has nothing but love for the friends, co-workers, and players he leaves behind. Hafley and Miami general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan spoke with reporters at a news conference on Thursday. Even though Hafley has no head coaching experience, Sullivan says bringing him was a “slam dunk.” The former Packers defensive coordinator says his two years in Green Bay were the best of his life so far. He calls Packers head coach Matt LaFleur a “great coach” and “a great friend.”
