MILWAUKEE (AP) — Jacob Misiorowski bounced back after allowing a leadoff homer to Shohei Ohtani by striking out 12 in six innings as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the slumping Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1. The NL West-leading Dodgers have lost five straight. Ohtani opened the game by connecting on an 0-2 curveball from Misiorowski and delivering a 431-foot shot over the center-field wall. Misiorowski (4-1) responded by striking out Los Angeles’ next five batters and ended up yielding only four hits and one walk to outduel three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins says he expects to miss about six weeks as he recovers from a sprained left thumb. Hoskins says he has an ulnar collateral ligament sprain as well as a “little bone bruise.” Hoskins was injured during a 4-2 loss at Miami on Saturday. The injury occurred after he stepped off first base to catch shortstop Joey Ortiz’s throw and tag Eric Wagaman. Andrew Vaughn and Jake Bauers figure to split time at first base while Hoskins is out.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Simeon Woods Richardson pitched five scoreless innings for the Minnesota Twins in an 8-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs before the bullpen took over against a tough lineup. Ryan Jeffers drove in three runs with a homer in a six-run eighth inning when Willi Castro and Harrison Bader also went deep. Royce Lewis added two RBIs. Chicago’s Shota Imanaga went six innings in his longest start since April 4. He was greeted by back-to-back doubles in a two-run first inning by Byron Buxton and Jeffers. Woods Richardson has a 1.38 ERA over his last five starts.

NEW YORK (AP) — Caitlin Clark has picked Indiana teammate Aliyah Boston No. 1 while Napheesa Collier took her Unrivaled business partner Breanna Stewart first in the WNBA All-Star Game draft. Clark had the first overall pick by being No. 1 in the fan vote. She had said there was “a high chance” that Boston and Kelsey Mitchell of the Fever would be on her team. Collier and Stewart started the 3-on-3 league Unrivaled this past winter. They were college teammates at UConn. Clark’s other starters were Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson and Satou Sabally. Collier took Allisha Gray, Nneka Ogwumike and Paige Bueckers.
