MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Tick activity is starting earlier this year, and you need to be aware of symptoms of a bite.
UW Health infectious disease physician Dr. Greg DeMuri says knowing what to watch for can make all the difference.
“Rash at the side of where the tick bite was. The rash for Lyme disease looks like it’s called a target-like rash. It’s a ring shape with a clearing in the center. Drooping of the face can be a sign of infection with Lyme disease. Swelling of the joints is another one. Unexplained fevers, achiness, fatigue,” DeMuri said.
DeMuri says you should contact your healthcare provider if symptoms appear—or if you’re unsure how long a tick was attached.
