MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Dissent among Republican state legislators could delay passage of tax cut plans.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu says his caucus doesn’t agree with Assembly tax relief proposals which could leave Governor Tony Evers’ 400 year school funding veto in place.
“It was pretty clear as we discussed it with our caucus that we needed to get rid of the 400-year veto or something meaningful to help going down the road. You know, that’s how negotiations work,” LeMahieu said.
LeMaheiu says Speaker Robin Vos intends to adjourn the Assembly on Thursday, leaving little time to reach an agreement on taxes. Vos says Senate Republicans are welcome to provide ideas, but he’s lukewarm to the idea of one time payments out of the state surplus, preferring property tax relief.
