WAUPUN, Wis. (WRN) — Waupun’s school superintendent says he supports a lawsuit which accuses the Wisconsin Legislature of funding public schools at levels so low they’re unconstitutional.
Steven Hill says small districts are getting inadequate state aid and can’t keep holding referendums to raise the money they need…
“So we have less students coming in than we did before. So you couple lower birth rates, you couple in that, we just can’t make it work anymore. We can only stretch the rubber band so far to get around our budget until it does snap. We’re at a snapping point,” Hill says.
The suit was filed last week in Eau Claire County Court.
The plaintiffs argue the Wisconsin constitution requires the state to provide all students with a “sound, basic, and uniform education.”
