WASHINGTON, D.C. (WRN) — Wisconsin’s Congressional delegation fell along lines over the weekend strikes by the U.S. in Venezuela and the capture of its president, Nicolas Maduro.

Statements from the state’s Republican representatives backed the mission. First District Congressman Bryan Steil  spoke with Fox 6 Milwaukee shortly after reports of the attack and apprehension of Maduro.

“The need to remove him has crossed multiple administrations, multiple parties, yet President Trump was successful in removing him from power earlier this morning,” Steil said.

Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson also voiced his support on a post on X. Wisconsin’s Democrats criticized the action.

Second District Representative Mark Pocan said in a statement, “Bombing and occupying Venezuela is an illegal act of war against a sovereign nation.”

Democrat Senator Tammy Baldwin also voiced criticism of the attack.
