MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A Western Wisconsin lawmaker wants to give families a tax break for back-to-school shopping.

“The legislation that we’ve introduced will provide a three day tax holiday for parents for buying back to school supplies for their kids, according to the National Retail Federation, the average cost for school supplies for one child is 144 dollars. Well, if you have three kids, that’s over 420 bucks,” said Onalaska Democratic Senator Brad Pfaff.

Currently 17 states offer sales tax holiday programs similar to what Pfaff proposes for Wisconsin.
