ST. LOUIS (AP) — David Hamilton and Brice Turang drove in two runs each during a four-run seventh inning and the Milwaukee Brewers rallied from a three-run deficit to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3. Garrett Mitchell opened the seventh with a single off reliever Justin Bruihl and Sal Frelick greeted Ryan Fernandez (1-2) with a ground-rule double. Cooper Pratt was safe on Fernandez’s fielding error to load the bases and Hamilton followed with a two-run double. Ryne Stanek came in and surrendered a go-ahead two-run single to Turang. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo acknowledged that change is scary as he switches teams for the first time. But ending his career with regrets seemed equally frightening to the two-time NBA MVP. Antetokounmpo posted a video Monday in which he discussed his mixed emotions with former Bucks broadcaster Jim Paschke as the 10-time All-Star’s trade from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat was finalized. Antetokounmpo said he’s “scared that the grass is not always greener.” Antetokounmpo ultimately decided it was worth the risk to go somewhere that he might have a better chance of winning a second title.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Brittney Griner scored a season-high 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Kennedy Burke added 16 points off the bench, including two 3-pointers in the final three minutes, and the Connecticut Sun beat the Minnesota Lynx 90-89. Burke made a 3-pointer with 2:53 remaining in the fourth quarter for a five-point lead, and Griner added a shot in the lane with 1:25 left to make it 84-79. Burke sank a wide open 3-pointer from the top of the key with 44.5 seconds left for an 87-84 lead. Diamond Miller made a key block for Connecticut and Griner sealed it, hitting a layup with 18.2 left for another five-point lead. Kayla McBride scored 28 points for Minnesota.
SEATTLE (AP) — The United States’ hopes for a deep World Cup run at home ended when Charles De Ketelaere scored twice and assisted on another goal, helping Belgium expose the Americans’ defensive liabilities in a 4-1 win Monday night that earned a quarterfinal berth. While the U.S. was boosted by the presence of star forward Folarin Balogun, whose one-game red-card suspension was controversially lifted by FIFA, American defenders were at fault in a pair of first-half goals and a gaffe by goalkeeper Matt Freese gave the Red Devils a third early in the second half. Romelu Lukaku added Belgium’s final goal in stoppage time.
