PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Dylan Cease struck out the side in the first inning, combining with 10 relievers on a three-hitter in a show of pitching dominance that led the American League to a 4-0 win over the National League in the All-Star Game. Cody Bellinger hit a two-run single and Ben Rice followed with an RBI single in the first against Cristopher Sánchez of the host Philadelphia Phillies. Miguel Vargas of the Chicago White Sox added an eighth-inning home run off the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Justin Wrobleski for the game’s only extra-base hit. The AL won for the 18th time in 23 games and holds a 49-45-2 overall advantage.
(Milwaukee, WI) — He skipped last night’s All-Star Game, and now the Brewers say Jacob Misiorowski won’t start a game in the upcoming series against the Marlins. He originally was going to start last Sunday. Yahoo Sports reports that the team says the second-year pitcher is dealing with “fatigue.” The earliest he is expected to take the mound is the July 20th game against the New York Mets. That would make it two weeks between starts for the hard-throwing right-hander.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Mikel Oyarzabal scored from the penalty spot after a heady play by teenager Lamine Yamal, Pedro Porro added another goal and Spain advanced to its first World Cup final since winning in 2010 with a 2-0 victory over France. Yamal was denied a goal on a close offside call that came soon after Porro’s give-and-go with Dani Olmo in the 58th minute had put Spain up 2-0. But it was Yamal’s smart play against a veteran defender that put Spain in the lead. Spain will face either defending champion Argentina or England on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey. They face each other on Wednesday in Atlanta.
(Madison, WI) — Badgers incoming quarterback Colton Joseph is being counted on to bring the football program back to prominence. On3 analyst Ari Wasserman ranks Joseph among the top incoming transfers in the Big Ten. He comes in at number six. Joseph was considered one of the country’s top dual-threat quarterbacks out of Old Dominion. At least eight conference teams will start a transfer quarterback. Joseph’s high ranking is among all players arriving through the portal.
(Green Bay, WI) — Entering the 2026 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers could have a hidden weapon sitting in plain sight. Running back Marshawn Lloyd has played just one game in his first two seasons. He’s been hit by a long list of injuries to his calf, groin, hamstring, and ankle. Lombardi Avenue-dot-com reports that this summer Lloyd has shown up to offseason programs healthy. And, when he’s healthy, he can be a difference-maker with speed, elusiveness, and overall talent. He just has to stay on the field.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves are confident the steep price they paid for LaMelo Ball can help get them close in on an NBA title. The four-team trade that brought Ball and guard Josh Green required the Wolves to part with proven power forwards Julius Randle and Naz Reid and several draft picks. The Wolves have four first-round picks from the 2020 draft with Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Ball and Green. The 6-foot-7 Ball gives the Wolves the extra size they sought for the backcourt as well as a true point guard who can lessen the ballhandling and playmaking burden on Edwards.
(Chicago, IL) — Head coach Kelly Sheffield and players Grace Egan and Charlie Fuerbringer will represent the Wisconsin Badgers at this year’s Big Ten Volleyball Media Day. The event in Chicago will be one day instead of two this time. That means a long day of media appearances and interviews. All 18 conference teams will take part August 3rd at the Big Ten Network studios.
