(Milwaukee, WI) — With often-injured veteran Brandon Woodruff and Kyle Harrison on the injured list, the Brewers have added a pair of arms to the pitching staff. ESPN reported the trade Wednesday. Milwaukee sends minor leaguer Jadyn Fielder to Houston. In return, it gets another pitcher with an injury history, Lance McCullers Junior. Lefty Colton Gordon also heads north. The Brewers needed somebody to help cover the innings remaining in the season. McCullers is on a minor league rehab stint now.
(Milwaukee, WI) — Bucks general manager Jon Horst says his team has a chance to build from a place of strength after trading superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. NBA-dot-com reports the return in the trade with Miami is reasonable, if not substantial. Milwaukee has hired a coach in Taylor Jenkins who has a track record of developing young players. Wisconsin native Tyler Herro has the ability to replace a lot of Antetokounmpo’s scoring, but not other facets of his game like rebounding or defense. First-round draft picks Brayden Burries and Nate Ament may be the next faces of the franchise.
(Madison, WI) — There’s a pretty good chance the final roster position for the Badgers will be filled by a player from overseas. Five of the 14 players on the UW roster now are from Australia or New Zealand. Wisconsin appears to need at least one more big man, but Sports Illustrated suggests a reunion could be coming. Depending on the court fight over eligibility, it is possible that sharp-shooting Braeden Carrington might return. The decision is likely coming in the next month.
(Pittsburgh, PA) — An NFL quarterback who played for Mike McCarthy and idolized Aaron Rodgers is predicting big things as those two get together in Pittsburgh. Ben DiNucci tells CBS Sports HQ the Steelers offense – which ranked 25th in total yards last season – will be entertaining. He thinks the reunion of McCarthy and Rodgers means Pittsburgh is going to throw the ball a lot. He says Rodgers will have a lot of control at the line of scrimmage and that will translate into points for the former Green Bay quarterback and his longtime coach.
ATLANTA (AP) — Defending champion Argentina rallied to beat England 2-1 and reach the World Cup final. Trailing 1-0 going into the last five minutes of regulation time, Enzo Fernandez and substitute Lautaro Martinez scored for Argentina. Anthony Gordon had given England the lead, but Lionel Messi and Co. had other ideas. Argentina pushed for an equalizer and the pressure eventually led to Fernandez scoring in the 85th minute. Martinez headed in the winner two minutes into injury time. Argentina will play Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
