RICE LAKE, Wis. (NWN) — Wildfire smoke from Minnesota and Canada continues to blanket the region, reducing air quality.

For much of northern Wisconsin and Northeast Minnesota, air quality index values remain above 500 this morning. Anything above 300 is considered “Hazardous.”

Today’s forecast shows a slight improvement with AQI values dropping into the 200s for the region, but still considered very unhealthy. Friday’s forecast shows improvement with levels dropping below 200 for most of the region.

Yesterday’s air quality was 750 in Rice Lake, more than double the base hazardous level, leading to the harness racing and carnival rides at the fair being canceled Wednesday evening.
