MADISON, Wis. (WRN / NWN) — The 26-year-old Trump-endorsed son-in-law of U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy prevailed in a primary field of five with a 20,000 vote margin over his closest challenger, Mosinee School Board President Kevin Hermining.
The mostly rural northern seat is being vacated by Republican candidate for governor, Tom Tiffany and the district leans heavily Republican. If elected in November Alfonso would be among the youngest members of Congress.
In the Democratic primary, Fred Clark snuck out a narrow lead over Ginger Murray and Chris Armstrong. Clark and Alfonso will face each other in the general election on November 3.
In the Third Congressional District, Rebecca Cooke won the Democratic primary, over Emily Berge [bur-ghee]. Cooke will face incumbent Republican Derrick Van Orden for the second time.
