MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A Wisconsin public health official takes issue with President Donald Trump’s executive order revising federal childhood vaccine recommendations.
Dr. Ryan Westergaard, Chief Medical Officer in the Wisconsin DHS Bureau of Communicable Diseases.
“It was not science based. It actually contradicts the best available science about how to prevent disease and keep kids healthy. So we are encouraging people to not follow that, not change practice,” Westergaard said. “Our recommendation to both families and clinicians is unchanged by the president’s executive order.”
The most controversial aspect of the executive order splits the Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccine into separate shots – which would put the U.S. at odds with other developed nations. Wisconsin DHS is currently dealing with a measles outbreak in Iowa and Lafayette Counties.
