The Brewers increased their NL Central Division lead to five games over the Chicago Cubs. They are off today (Monday) and will start a home series against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Bryan De La Cruz hit a two-run single in the eighth inning and the Philadelphia Phillies overcame a five-run deficit to beat the Minnesota Twins 7-5 and sweep the three-game series. Alec Bohm hit a three-run home run and Philadelphia won for the fifth time in seven games. Brooks Lee hit a grand slam, and Kody Clemens went deep for Minnesota which fell to 4-10 in August. Orion Kerkering (7-1) tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the win. Jhoan Duran earned his 26th save with a scoreless ninth. Andrew Morris (4-4) took the loss.
(Green Bay, WI) — It’s one of the biggest developments of Packers training camp. Tight end Tucker Kraft returned Sunday to team drills. He took part in 11-on-11 work for the first time since injuring his knee last year. This move means it is possible he will be on the field for the joint practice with the Arizona Cardinals a week from Wednesday and, barring the unforeseen, should play for Green Bay on Week 1.
(Springfield, MA) — Former Marquette star Glenn “Doc” Rivers has been inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Ceremonies were held over the weekend in Springfield, Massachusetts. Rivers played for Marquette from 1980-to-1983 and his number 31 was retired in 2004. A second-round draft pick of the Atlanta Hawks, Rivers averaged almost 11 points and six rebounds a game for his 13-year professional career.
(Milwaukee, WI) — All 82 Milwaukee Bucks games will be broadcast on over-the-air television during the upcoming NBA season. That means free access has been expanded. Games will be offered on My24-Milwaukee and Channel 3000-Madison, plus other affiliate stations. Although future Hall of Famer Giannis Antetokounmpo is no longer in the Bucks lineup, Wisconsin native Tyler Herro will join several new faces for the season that starts October 21st with a game against the Washington Wizards.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler is back to his dominant self. The world’s No. 1 player took a two-shot lead and turned into a blowout at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He shot a 66 and won by eight shots over Si Woo Kim. That’s the largest margin of victory at the TPC Southwind in its 68-year history. Kim shot 68. Scheffler not only won $3.6 million, he clinched a $23 million bonus for being No. 1 in the FedEx Cup through next week’s BMW Championship. Sungjae Im was the only player to move into the top 50 to advance in the postseason.
