BALSAM LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — One driver died and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highways 8 and 65, south of Balsam Lake, on Saturday evening.
The Polk County Sheriff’s office said 40-year-old Melissa Johnson, of rural Luck, was driving a pickup with a trailer north on Highway 65, when her vehicle ran the stop sign at Highway 8 and was struck by a westbound passenger car, just before 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. Johnson died at the scene.
The other driver, not named, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
The crash was under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
