MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Avoid ash trees when putting up tree stands this season.

As hunters start scouting for the fall deer season, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says dead and dying ash trees can be dangerous places for tree stands. Officials say emerald ash borer infestations have now been confirmed in all 72 counties, weakening trees and making them more likely to snap or drop large branches.

Hunters are urged to use other tree species, wear a full-body safety harness and stay alert around ash trees, especially on windy days.
