MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The Better Business Bureau says an incident involving scammers using a celebrity’s voice and face is not uncommon any more.

The Better Business Bureau says an incident involving scammers using a celebrity’s voice and face is not uncommon any more. Spokeswoman Lisa Schiller says comedian Charlie Berens is just one example.

“We’ve had some other celebrities as well. Recently, Nancy Wilson of the group Heart, who happened to be in concert in Milwaukee,” Schiller said.

Schiller says the scammers use things like Facebook fan groups or other social media to pick their targets, and then try to groom the victims for several days or even weeks before asking for money. They might even use AI technology to fake the celeb’s voice.

If you get a call or text from a celebrity out of the blue, it’s probably fake.
