MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — At the Capitol, bipartisan legislation would eliminate the state’s “pink tax” statewide.
Wisconsin’s standard 5% sales tax currently applies to all menstrual products. Democratic Representative Lee Snodgrass of Appleton says Wisconsin is behind.
“32 other states have successfully signed bills into law to eliminate this unfair, regressive, and discriminatory tax on these necessary products, saving taxpayers millions in unnecessary costs,” Snodgrass said.
The bill is authored by Snodgrass and Republican Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara of Appleton. If passed, between $3.6 to $4.8 million of state revenue would be lost, or about two tenths of one percent of Wisconsin’s budget.
